(MENAFN) US Vice President Mike Pence had again started talks of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, stressing that Donald Trump had seriously considered the topic.
During President Donald Trump's campaign, Trump's team had discussed moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, but since he won the election, the matter had moved to the backburner.
Pence said in a speech to the influential, pro-Israel U.S. lobbying group AIPAC and said: "After decades of simply talking about it, the president of the United States is giving serious consideration to moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem."
On the other hand, the suggestion was opposed strongly by many US allies as the Palestinians believe that Jerusalem is Palestine's capital not as claimed by the Israeli side.
