Morocco- Moroccan Family in Milan Welcomes Pope Francis

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Rabat - Popes usually arrive in Milan with a good deal of pomp and ceremony, complete with full motorcade. Pope Francis, however, likes to do things a bit differently, avoiding the spotlight, choosing a less expected route.

When Mihoual Abdel Karim immigrated from Morocco to Milan with his family, he didn't foresee that one day he would be entertaining the Pope in his apartment. And yet, Saturday morning, he opened his door to find Pope Francis, spiritual leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics, at his door.

Invited in to the Karim household, Francis made an indelible impression on the family who hosted him. Karim works at a pharmaceutical company and lives in the modest but welcoming apartment with his wife and three children.

Asked about the unexpected experience, Karim said, 'It was very emotional. It was like having a friend in the house.' Meanwhile, Karim's wife busied herself being a good hostess and seeing to her guests' comfort, offering them a selection of sweets, nuts, dates and milk.

Milan may be the fashion capital of the world and it certainly is the home of unforgettable tourist sights like the La Scala opera house. For the Karim family, however, it is simply home and a place where anything is possible… perhaps even another visit from their new friend, the Pope.
