Several passengers flying from and to the UK from the UAE are unclear whether the electronics ban imposed by United States is applicable to them.
The confusion has been built following the announcement by the UK that electronic devices of a certain size are no longer allowed in cabins. The ban was put in place shortly after the United States implemented a similar rule. However, the UAE is listed by the US and is not on the UK list.
The UK has announced that phones, laptops and tablets larger than 16.0cm x 9.3cm x 1.5cm are no longer allowed in cabins on flights to the UK from Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tunisia. It omitted UAE.
However, several UK residents were tweeting to airlines whether they could bring their electronics with them on their flight here.
There were a growing number of tweets from UK residents, who are flying out to Dubai, questioning whether they are allowed to bring their laptop and iPads onboard, unaware that UAE is not even listed in the ban.
One passenger tweeted: "Is the laptop ban for UK flight also? I am flying from London to Bangkok via Dubai."
Ahmed AlQezmi tweeted: "What about flights to the UK? Will gaming tablets be allowed?"
Jamies tweeted: "So, if I'm flying soon to the UK from Phuket via Dubai and I'm a UK citizen, can I take my laptop?"
Tony Broderick tweeted: "Really struggling to work out if a Qantas flight from Australia to the UK via Dubai is impacted by the laptop ban?"
