AJMAN, 25th March, 2017 (WAM) -- The Ajman branch of Dar Al Ber Society, which is dedicated to philanthropic work, managed to collect AED17.16 million in contributions from charity projects last year.
''These are compared to AED16.27 million in 2015. This is really a quantum leap in the amount of donations collected, and hopefully this will be the case again this year," said Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber.
Official records show that the Ajman branch of Dar Al Ber Society sponsored 271 new orphans, including seven in the UAE and 246 abroad last year, with the help of generous sponsors.
"The contributions collected last year were distributed as follows: AED8.3 million for building mosques, AED2.13 million for digging water wells, AED746,762 for endowments, AED320,303 for poor productive families, AED2 million for sponsoring orphans and AED2.2 million for Cash Alms or Zakat," Al Falasi added.
The Ajman branch managed to collect AED145,236 for the Iftar Project last Ramadan, as well as AED53,370 for the Eid Clothes Programme, AED275,300 for Eid Al Adha sacrificial animals and AED230,676 for printing copies of the Quran, Al Falasi explained.
"The Dar Al Ber Society's well-trained staff representatives have also managed to collect AED163,405 for general charities, apart from other contributions that totalled AED2,571,022 last year," he added.
Khalid Abdulwahhab Al Khajah, Director of the Ajman branch, said that they covered an array of charity projects while supporting nearly 2,868 poor and low-income families last year.
"Of these 1,133 were paid house rents, while the study fees of 1,131 students were taken care of, the medicine of 239 patients were handled, the electricity bills of 44 families were paid, apart from 321 other cases in need of emergency assistance," he added.
