Venezuelan President Asks UN Help on Medicine Shortage

Caracas, March 25 (QNA) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro asked the United Nations to help Venezuela alleviate the severe shortages of medicine."I have asked the United Nations to regularize the whole medicine issue. The United Nations has the most advanced plans to recover the pharmaceutical industry's productive capacity," the President said in a speech broadcast on the national television.

The president blames the problems on an economic war against his government and the sharp fall in oil prices."I've asked for support from the United Nations to help treat the economic and social injuries that have hit our people," he said.

Venezuela's Medical Federation said recently that hospitals had less than 5% of the medicines they needed. (QNA)
