Egypt pres. reiterates support for political stability in Lebanon


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, March 22 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed Wednesday his country's backing for political stability in Lebanon, while looking forward to closer cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon.

Al-Sisi made the remark while welcoming visiting Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri, thanking him for making Cairo his first foreign visit since he was chosen Lebanon's premier, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yusuf said in a press statement.

The president welcomed the convening of the joint Egyptian-Lebanese committee in Cairo, where a host of cooperative agreements and memoranda of understanding are to be inked, he added.

He also reiterated Egypt's full support to the Lebanese government's efforts to promote the values of moderation and tolerance, to decry all forms of tensions and communal and religious extremism and to reject foreign interference in the country's domestic affairs.

On his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri underscored the strong and deep relations between Lebanon and Egypt, voicing much thanks and appreciation to Egypt for its relentless backing to Lebanon's security and stability.

He stressed his country's interest in developing and consolidating economic, trade and tourist relations with Egypt, in boosting the level of two-trade exchange, stepping up sharing of experience in transport, health and education, and in stimulating and spurring mutual investment.

He also pointed out Lebanon's keenness on bolstering cooperation with Egypt in the fight against terrorism that poses a serious threat to the region and the entire world. (end) asm.mt
