Kuwaiti PM calls for protecting children from social networks' ills


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, March 21 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that the first line of defense to protect the children from the negative aspects of social media networks starts from home.

This speech by His Highness the Prime Minister's was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah during the opening ceremony of Kuwait's first regional conference on the protection of children against hazards of social networking.

He added, "educational and civilian institutions have a major role in encouraging children to use the internet positively." His Highness the Prime Minister called for a whole new strategy to protect the children against hazards of social networking to maintain their national identity, said the official.

On his part, the chairman of the first regional conference on the protection of children against hazards of social networking and Director General of Forensic Evidence department at the Interior Ministry Dr. Fahd Al-Dosari said in his speech that protecting the children was one of the main duties for the ministry.

Al-Dosari added that children will be the future of the country and they needed to be protected.

The ceremony was attended by Oman's Interior Minister Hamoud bin Faisal Al-Busaidi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani and Secretary General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council Dr. Mohammad Ali Coman.

The conference will include workshops and papers focusing on measures to protect children from the negative aspects of social media. (end) hrz.mys
