Oman Plast exhibition begins

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The fourth edition of the International Plastics, Rubber, Petrochemicals, Printing and Packaging Industry Exhibition (Oman Plast 2017) started on Tuesday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Oman Plast 2017 was opened by Hilal bin Hamad al Hasani, chief executive officer of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates. The three-day event is being organised by Silver Star Corporation. Diplomats, government officials and businessmen attended the opening. Oman Plast 2017 is showcasing the latest technology and machinery used in manufacturing of plastics, rubber, petrochemicals, printing and packaging.

More than 100 participants are showcasing their products and services at the exhibition. Participating countries, in addition to Oman, include China, India, UAE, Qatar, the US, Italy, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. P D Nath, managing director, Silver Star Corporation, said, 'The polyethylene production capacities in the Gulf region will increase from 10.7mn tonnes in 2009 to 21.5mn tonnes by 2018, an increase of slightly over 100 per cent.

'This event is perfectly timed for the continuing boom in Oman's plastics, rubber, packaging and petrochemical industry. This event will offer a perfect gateway to reach this highly potential market and will provide excellent business opportunities and new collaborations.' Muawia Thabit Mahmood, general manager, Al Fanar Woven Plastic Bags, said, 'We manufacture strong plastic bags for eatables, cement, concrete and stones. 'The event is an ideal platform for Oman and its neighbouring countries to source new technology and products through this knowledge forum. As the petrochemical industry is one of the main components of the Omani economy, the event will give great impetus to further diversify its growth.'

Noel Jerone, sales executive of Femco Future Engineering Technology and Manufacturing Company, said, 'We deal with non-woven fabric bags; they are non-plastic and biodegradable. In many cities in India, plastic bags are banned due to environmental and health issues. We are making stuff like kitchen linens and carry bags. There are water-absorbent paper bags too.'
