Rabat -The World Bank Organization (WBO) launched its EmpowerHer Hackathon initiative for Morocco on March 18, at Technopark in Casablanca.

The EmpowerHer Hackathon, already established in other countries, is intended to address the restrictions that prevent women from playing a larger role in the labor force.

The event brought together young developers, rural women's associations, and private sector sponsors to discuss innovative solutions and share suggestions to ensure the continuation of creativity.

Those who attended, especially women, had the opportunity to gain insight on investment, saving, spending, and other aspects of personal finance.

30 competitions were held during the event, in which young entrepreneurs presented their projects on marketing, transportation, logistics, and skills development in front of a jury.

Competitors for the Best Hack Solutions Award suggested their ideas on how to improve and overcome some of the difficulties faced by women in the economy field.

The Minister of Handicrafts, Social Economy, and Solidarity, Fatema Marouane, remarked on the importance of this initiative, in line with other initiatives which aim to empower women through various programs, including the National Human Development Initiative(INDH) projects.

'Moroccan Women are playing a major role in several areas to ensure their economic independence,' the minister said.

In response to this, the Ministry has implemented a set of training programs, in English and French, financial education workshops for women workers in the artisanal field.

This event was organized in collaboration with the Moroccan government and Moroccan organizations.
