DUBAI, 1st March, 2017 (WAM) -- INJAZ UAE and Tejar Dubai partnered to announce the annual company Programme competition at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday, launching high school teams as part of the entrepreneurship accelerator event.

More than 150 Emirati youths took part in the event, which was attended by Majid Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber, Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice President of the institutional support sector at the Dubai Chamber, and General Coordinator of Tejar Dubai.

The INJAZ UAE Company Programme is the flagship competition run in partnership with Tejar Dubai and supported by Citi UAE and Shell SEPIL. During the event, participants worked with their mentors from Citi, Shell and other consultants to form entrepreneurial teams and explored the numerous aspects of starting a business as part of their academic experience.

Guided by their mentors, students transform their classrooms into start-ups for 12 weeks. They learn to lead their "enterprises," create business ideas and manage companies to compete for the "Best Student Company of the Year Award" at the end of the academic year.

During one action-packed event, students immersed themselves in the early stages of forming teams, ideation, and working through challenges, while networking with business professionals and mentors.

Through the accelerator event, business and education partners were able to support entrepreneurial learning among students and ignite a fun competitive spirit at Dubai high schools.

During his welcome speech, Al Zaabi noted that the program fostered a culture of entrepreneurship among UAE youth and provided them with a platform to launch their ventures.

He stated that such initiatives fall in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai one of the world's most innovative cities by 2021.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are key focus areas under the Chamber's 2017-2021 strategy, Al Zaabi said, adding that the organisation has several initiatives to develop the emirate's entrepreneurial network. These include Tejar Dubai, Dubai Smartpreneur Competition and Dubai Startup Hub, which are designed to support and guide promising entrepreneurs, many of whom support the emirate's vision to become a global smart city and a start-up friendly hub.
