UAE- Over 2 tonnes trash cleared from Yas Island beach


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Yas Beach Clean-up Campaign was carried out by the Abu Dhabi Municipality with the help of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Waste Management (Tadweer) Two-and-a-half tonnes of waste including papers, plastic bags, metal and glass containers was removed from Yas Island East Beach in a single day. The Yas Beach Clean-up Campaign was carried out by the Abu Dhabi Municipality with the help of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Waste Management (Tadweer) as part of the campaign to promote cleanliness.

The campaign also saw participation of 100 employees from the Abu Dhabi Municipality in addition to workers of other departments, hotels, restaurants and other residents.

During the campaign, participants who were equipped with all the necessary beach cleaning tools such as gloves, sacks, masks and trash pickers, cleaned a beach stretch of about 3 km. More than 2.4 tonnes of hazardous waste was removed from the beach including 900kg of glass, 620kg of plastic, 440 kg of cans, 220 kg of paper, and 240 kg of miscellaneous waste.

"The Abu Dhabi Municipality is committed to its environmental message of maintaining a clean environment and waste-free beaches," municipal officials said.

"We are keen on instilling and promoting environmental hygiene attitudes among all community segments and communicating environmental messages to community members in order to educate them on the damage and problems facing the environment."
