Dubai Media City Takes Part in Reducing Carbon Emissions By 10% on Car Free Day

Dubai, UAE, February 9, 2017: Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge Park took part in the Dubai Municipality's eighth annual initiative the 'Car-Free Day on Sunday the 5th of February, which aims to have more residents utilize eco-friendly transportation means to reduce carbon emissions.

Participants from Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge Park led by example by using the Emirate's best in class public transportation system to get to work. Staff were encouraged to be more physically active so that they can see first-hand the benefits of leaving their vehicles at home, with the hope of making it a regular occurrence for them to opt for the metro or bus instead. In just one day, the community saw a 10% reduction in traffic, which speaks volumes of 'Car-Free Day's success.

Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Media City stated 'The Car-Free Day marks the beginning of many initiatives to come this year. Our strategy is focused on engaging our community and the wider society in activities that will contribute to realizing the goals of the Year of Giving.

To add to the initiatives excitement, Dubai Media City created a social media competition for people to share pictures of them riding public transport to DMC, using the hashtag 'DMCCarFree. The photo which receives the most number of likes will win a gift voucher worth 2000 AED from a sport store.

DMC is a well-connected community that was designed with ease of transportation in mind. There are many transportation means that can be used to access this vibrant community such as a designated tram station, two metro stations within the city, a shuttle service and multiple bus stops. All of which are conveniently located and designed to provide commuters with comfort.
