(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) QNA) - Turkish Ambassador to Qatar Ahmet Dimerok said Monday that the visit of President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Qatar tomorrow will represent a strong push in strategic ties between the two sides.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency, the ambassador said that Turkey is looking to increase cooperation in all fields with the GCC member countries in general and the State of Qatar in particular. The ambassador highlighted trade and economic ties in particular as the two areas Turkey would like to increase cooperation in. The ambassador added that Turkey is also keen on having a united stance with the GCC regarding regional affairs. He noted that the developments in all of Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Yemen served the benefits of no one.
Dimerok also praised the high level of consultation between Qatar and Turkey, evident in holding regular meetings aimed at strengthening ties and shaping a shared view on current challenges facing the region. He highlighted the holding of the Second meeting of Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee, just two months ago, as a reflection of the level of cooperation. He added that bilateral relations have been solidifying at a rapid rate ever since the establishment of the strategic committee.
The ambassador highlighted the strong ties between Turkey and GCC member countries. Erdogan's tour that will include Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in addition to Qatar reflects the commitment to those ties, Dimerok added.
The President of Turkey will hold official talks with HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, pertaining to issues of joint interest and bilateral relations. They will also discuss regional and international issues of joint interest. The ambassador said that the Syrian crisis, developments in Yemen, and terrorism will be three topics high on the agenda of the talks, due to its negative impacts on the stability of the Middle-East.
On trade relations, the ambassador said that they have been revitalized over the past two years. There are now close to 60 Turkish companies operating in the Qatari market, most of which are in the construction sector. The ambassador added that the high level of cooperation in different fields has contributed to improving economic ties. This was evident in a number of fields, the ambassador said, such as taxes, exhibitions, customs among many other fields.
Dimerok expressed his hope that Turkish companies can increase its market share in Qatar, especially in terms of infrastructure projects. He highlighted that both countries have ambitious economic plans; on one side Turkey aims to have a GDP of $2 trillion by 2023. Qatar for its part is striving to diversify its economy away from oil and gas. (QNA)
