Wahaibi announced the details at a press meet on Sunday, adding that the AHF congress will take place in Muscat from March 29-31.
Delegations from 31 countries will attend the summit, led by H R H Prince Abdullah Ahmed Shah, the AHF president. The qualifying round for the 2018 Asian Games will be hosted by Muscat over January- February next year.
The decision to award the hosting rights for the qualifiers to Oman was taken at an executive meeting of the AHF in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last week. It is learnt that Oman was picked ahead of Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Wahaibi confirmed that Narinder Batra, the president of the International Hockey Federation (IHF), will visit Muscat on March 2, as scheduled. The OHA boss also disclosed that Oman will host an inaugural Super Cup match at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) in March.
It will be played between Seeb Club, the winner of the His Majesty's Cup, and Al Nasr, the domestic champion
Starcare Gulf Fiesta 2017 from Feb 17-18
As many as 12 teams will vie for top honours at the Starcare Gulf Hockey Fiesta 2017, it was announced at a press meet on Sunday.
The competition, organised by United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC) in association with the OHA, will take place from February 17-18.
The matches will be played at the SQSC. Javis Ahmed, the tournament director, said, 'After a successful edition in the past, we are back with new plans and objectives for hockey.
To take our success to new heights, we are continuing our journey with the Starcare Gulf Hockey Fiesta 2017.' Out of the 12 teams in fray, six are from abroad.
The local teams are Oman Veterans, Ahli-Sidab Club, Saham Club, UTSC, Team Coorg and Pak Falcons.
The international teams are Dubai Hockey Club, Dadabhai Club (Dubai), Young Stars Club (Bahrain), KSA Field Hockey (Saudi Arabia), Al Naqi Strikers (Saudi Arabia) and One Thousand Hockey Legs (India).
The teams have been pooled into three groups of four teams each. Two teams from each group will progress to the quarterfinals.
The remaining slots will be taken up by teams with the most number of points. UTSC chief Hashir Ponman - ichi attended the press meet.
