Kuwaiti crowned champion of His Highness the Amir's shooting tournament


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 2 (KUNA) -- Kuwait on Thursday was crowned champion of His Highness the Amir International Shooting Tournament, bagging up to 21 medals including seven gold medals and equal number of silver and bronze ones.

Bahrain came second in the six-day tournament of His Highness the Amir, held at Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic shooting range, with participation of shooters from up to 47 countries. The Bahrainis garnered nine medals, including four gold medals, an equal number of silver and bronze trophies. Saudi Arabia ranked third with four gold, two silver and a single bronze.
The Kuwaiti shooters Saad Al-Mutairi, Ahmad Al-Afasi, Jrah Al-Shuwaier came second in the males' double trap category. In the individuals' double trap, the Qatari Hamad Al-Meri came first, ahead of the Kuwaiti Saad Al-Mutairi. Khaled Al-Jaabi of the UAE was third.
Omanis Youness Al-Hanthali, Hamad Al-Khatri, Senan Al-Nasri won the gold in the 50-M rifle prone. Bahrainis Nasser Bin Turki, Salman Zaman, Mahmoud Haji came second and the Saudis Badr Al-Otaibi, Hussein Al-Harbi and Abdulrahman Al-Jehaidli third.
Zaman won the gold in the individuals' category, ahead of the Omanis Issam Al-Bloushi and Younes Al-Hanthali, who respectively bagged the silver and bronze.
Meanwhile, Duaij Al-Otaibi, the chairman of the tournament steering committee and head of the Kuwaiti and Arab shooting federations, expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir for his care for the sports event, which grouped shooters from Asian, African, European and South American nations.
He also lauded the great support accorded by the Minister of Information, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, for the national shooting, as well as Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the General Director of the Public Authority for Sports (PAS), for his key role in ensuring success of the championship, which kicked off last Saturday with inauguration by Minister Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud.
