ABU DHABI, 23rd January, 2017 (WAM) -- Commissioner Ali Al Kaabi, Head of the Federal Customs Authority, discussed on Monday the role of the customs sector with Salem Ahmed Salem Al Kaabi, the UAE Ambassador to Ukraine, and Mahash Saeed Salem al-Hameli, the UAE ambassador to South Africa.
The meeting – attended by several heads of departments at the authority – addressed the role of the customs sector in ensuring the security of the UAE community, and improving customs work, in addition to the co-operation between the State and its embassies abroad.
The UAE is a regional commercial centre, and the authority is keen to implement the best practices to facilitate trade and promote commercial and custom partnership with other countries, Commissioner Ali Al Kaabi said.
The non-oil trade statistics show an increased movement of goods between the UAE and other countries, and therefore, more efforts are needed to sustain the growth rates and implement the most advanced smart systems to ensure reliable customs procedures, he noted.
The meeting with the UAE ambassadors is aimed at defining the role of the customs sector in supporting the national economy and achieving economic diversification, in addition to ensuring the security of the society and facilitating trade, Al Kaabi said.
He expressed the keenness of the authority as a federal body, in charge of issuing customs legislations and monitoring the customs sector, to co-operate with the State ambassadors abroad, provide information related to foreign non-oil trade, and ensure technical and administrative co-operation agreements with other countries.
