Trump continues legacy of Presidents of the United States of America


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- President-elect Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated on January 20 as the 45th President of the United States of America (USA), continuing a legacy that spans a period of 200 years.
Trump will hold the position for four years until the next election in 2020.
Here is a list of Presidents of the United States of America 1 - George Washington, 1789-1797 Washington was the first President in the history of the country, running for two terms. He was amongst the committee that shaped the US Federal constitution and also was responsible for the establishment of the Vice Presidency seat.
2 - John Adams, 1797-1801 Adams was the first President to reside in the White House. He was previously the Vice President and also was part of the committee that shaped the US constitution.
3 - Thomas Jefferson, 1801-1809 Jefferson was the first US President to choose Washington D.C. as the capital of the country. He established public schools and was the founder of the University of Virginia. He was known for his religious tolerance.

15 - James Buchanan, 1857-1861 The only bachelor to hold the position of President. He was the first American leader to use transatlantic telegraph cable.
16 - Abraham Lincoln, 1861-1865 Lincoln perhaps is the most famous US President of his era. He led the Union troops, ending the civil war and legality of slavery as a concept. He was assassinated in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth.
17 - Andrew Johnson, 1865-1869 Johnson was impeached by Congress and tried by the Senate, but was acquitted by one vote. He bought Alaska in 1867 and included it to the US.
18 - Ulysses S. Grant, 1869-1877 Grant was a well-known figure in the Civil War. He led the nation for two terms.
19 - Rutherford Birchard Hayes, 1877-1881 A Harvard Graduate, Hayes was keen on reforms. Hayes is one of only three Presidents to lose the popular vote but win the office. He won the election by one electoral vote.

21 - Chester Alan Arthur, 1881-1885 Arthur was known as being a responsible and just President. Helped in the creation of the civil service in the US. 25 - William McKinley, 1897-1901 During his Presidency, the American-Spanish war occurred. The US won several territories as a result. McKinley was assassinated in 1901.
26 - Theodore Roosevelt, 1901-1909 Roosevelt was the youngest President to take office during his era. Amongst his chief achievements was the building of the Panama Canal. He was the first President to travel abroad and took part in brokering peace between Russia and Japan during Russo-Japanese War. Roosevelt won the Noble Prize for Peace in 1906.

Truman, 1945-1953 Truman was known for being the President to have taken the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. He also led the nation during the Korean War and also established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) 1949.
34 - Dwight David Eisenhower, 1953-1961 He was well-known figure in WWII and helped to put an end the Korean War in 1953. 39 - James Earl Carter, Jr., 1977-1981 Though championing peace in the Middle East, Carter's era saw the most enthralling hostage crisis in US history. In 1979, the US Embassy in Tehran was stormed and staff were held hostage. In 2002, President Carter was awarded the Noble Peace Prize for his efforts in defusing international conflicts.
40 - Ronald Wilson Reagan, 1981-1989 Reagan was widely known as the American leader who revived national pride as seen in previous eras.
