(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Mohammad Al-Fares said Thursday that Kuwait Institute for Scientific Researching (KISR) is focusing on providing science-based solutions for challenges facing the country.
The KISR is keen on finding solutions to national challenges to materialize state development plan, Al-Fares, also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of KISR, told reporters following a board meeting held today.
He pointed out that the meeting has tackled a number of issues including the detailed report of the KISR activities in 2015/2016 and future projects.
For her part, KISR Director General Dr. Samera Omar said that the institute has conducted 161 research projects in 2015/2016, including 88 contracted upon researches. She added that the institute has provided 36 technical and consulting services and 19 diverse services to different sectors.
The KISR has also carried out a large number of training courses in Kuwait and abroad to 2,081 Kuwaitis. It also organized training courses for 208 students and offered scholarships for studying abroad to 47 nationals, she noted.
KISR is a pioneering, independent, national institute of scientific excellence. Set up in 1967, KISR's initial role was dedicated to developing three fields of national importance: petroleum, desert agriculture, and marine biology.
Since then, KISR's role and responsibilities have expanded greatly to include the advancement of national industry and the undertaking of studies to address key challenges, such as the preservation of the environment, sustainable management of Kuwait's natural resources, responsible management of water and energy, and development of innovative methods of agriculture.
