Unemployment rate hit 5.8% high in Australia


(MENAFN) Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the Australian unemployment rate has jumped to 5.8% in December, and around 13,500 new jobs were created during the period, beating market analysts who expected mark of 12,000.

Generally, the amount of people in full time work increased with 9,500 new positions filled, while the part time workers got a small boost with 4,500 jobs created.

Accordingly, participation rates increased, with 64.7% of people either actively employed or currently seeking work which was a 0.1% increase.

Steve Daghlian, market analyst at CommSec told press: "It's not the sort of data that you would expect would really influence the market, because it wasn't a huge beat, or a huge miss," and he added: "If it wasn't for CSL, the market would be completely flat, or possibly only slightly stronger."
