Fed shows US economy continues modest expansion in December


(MENAFN) According to the latest survey released by the Federal Reserve showed that US economic activity continued expansion at a modest pace since last November until the end of the year.

The Fed in its latest Beige Book which gauges its 12 districts' economy said: "Reports from the 12 Federal Reserve Districts indicated that the economy continued to expand at a modest pace across most regions."

The survey showed that most districts reported growing retail sales and increased sales for the manufacturing industry, as resedintial construction and sales were mixed generally.

Janet Yellen, Fed Chairwoman, confirmed that the U.S. economy is close to full employment and inflation is heading toward the central bank's 2-percent target.
