White House Awaits Inauguration of 45th President

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha, January 18 (QNA) - After less than 48 hours, US President Donald John Trump enters the White House to be the 45th president of the United States of America, succeeding outgoing President Barack Obama (2009-2017).
The swearing-in ceremony takes place at the US Capitol, the home of the US Congress, where Trump takes the Oath of Office and be sworn in as America's 45th President in the presence of President Barack Obama, former presidents, diplomats, members of the Cabinet, candidates in previous presidency elections, members of Congress, judges of the US Supreme Court and high-ranking officers in the Pentagon as well as holders of medals of honor of different categories and a large number of audience.
According to the US authorities, about 50 security and intelligence agencies will secure the event where they will deploy about 28,000 security personnel to secure the ceremony, expected to be attended by 700 to 900 thousand people, including 99 different protest groups.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, a Washington Post-ABC News poll revealed Trump as the least-popular incoming president in at least four decades with a favoring rating of 40% in comparison to Obama who enjoyed favoring rating of 84% on the day of his inauguration.
Trump also angered Democratic members of the Congress after he lashed out at congressman John Lewis, and other Congress members over his policies, leading them to announce their boycott to the inauguration.
After his inauguration, Trump and his family will move to the White House, the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States. It has been the residence of every US president since John Adams in 1800. At various times in history, the White House has been known as the "President's Palace", the "President's House", and the "Executive Mansion". President Theodore Roosevelt officially gave the White House its current name in 1901.

It is unknown yet whether Trump will run his works from the "Oval Office" in the White House, like all former presidents, or he intends to change.
The President's Office is the official place where he runs his works and all means of communications with his advisers and executives are available.
The Oval Office desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford Hayes in 1880 and was built from the timbers of the British Arctic exploration ship Resolute. All presidents since Hayes have used the desk, except Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
The features of the Office remain constant including the white marble mantel from the original 1909 President's Office, the Presidential Seal on the ceiling, and the two flags behind the President's desk the US Flag and the President's Flag.
In addition, President Obama added a new oval-shaped rug. This rug features the Presidential Seal in the center and five historical quotations of meaning by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and John Kennedy around its border.
The Situation Room, which is located in the same wing of the Oval Office, was established in 1961 on the order of President Kennedy. It is the famous room that appeared in the media showing President Barack Obama receive an update on the mission against Osama bin Laden in May, 2011. The room is equipped with advanced communications equipment for the President to maintain command and control of US forces around the world.
Although Donald Trump has not chosen a spokesperson for the White House yet, but this does not mean that James Brady Press Briefing Room, which receives journalists, is ready to receive the new spokesperson. In 2000, the room was renamed the "James S. Brady Press Briefing Room" in honor of James Brady, the press secretary who was shot and permanently disabled during an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981.
Ahead of a new era for U.S. presidency, President Donald Trump has chosen members of his administration, notably Rex Tillerson as secretary of state, retired Marine Gen. James Mattis as secretary of defense, Wilbur Ross as secretary of commerce, Steven Mnuchin as secretary of treasury, Betsy DeVos as secretary of education, Elaine Chao as secretary of transportation, and Robert Lighthizer was the pick for the trade representative, who is responsible for international trade negotiations.
For the attorney general, Trump has chosen Senator Jeff Sessions, a supporter of extreme firmness in handling illegal immigration, while retired Gen. Michael Flynn, a former chief of military intelligence service, was picked for the national security adviser post.
Trump also announced that Representative Mike Pompeo of Kansas will run the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and picked Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus to be the White House chief of staff.
The incoming U.S. president also appointed his son-in-law Jared Kushner as a senior White House advisor. Kushner, aged 35 and husband of Ivanka Trump, has played a major behind-the-scenes role in the campaign.
Trump chose Dina Habib, an American of Egyptian origin, as an advisor for economic initiatives. She is currently in charge of charity initiatives at Goldman Sachs Foundation.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the largest office within the executive office of the president of the United States. Its most prominent function is to produce the president's budget. (QNA)
