(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Hosts Oman, buoyed by their massive 5-0 win over Guinea in their opening match on Sunday, will have their confidence high when they take on Bahrain in a Group A match of the second CISM World Football Cup 2017 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) on Wednesday.
The match kicks off at 7pm and will be preceded by France vs Guinea match at 5pm. France had lost its opening match in Group A to Bahrain, a team that is expected to provide a stern test to the hosts.
Coached by national team assistant coach Muhanna Said al Adawi, Oman will aim for its second consecutive victory to assure itself of a spot in the quarterfinals.
The hosts team comprises a sprinkling of national team stars in the line-up and would expect the in-form striker, Abdulaziz Miqbali, to continue his scoring touch after he slammed in two goals against Guinea.
With Mohammed Taqi, the other forward, also finding the net against Guinea twice, Oman will hope to get an early goal to put pressure on its rival unlike during their match against Guinea when the hosts led 1-0 at the interval.
Bahrain also boasts of couple of its international stars in its side and will be upbeat after its 1-0 win against France on Monday. With three points in its kitty, Bahrain will also look for a win to seal a berth in the last eight.
Meanwhile, France will look to clinch a win against Guinea to avoid an early exit. It is scheduled to meet Oman in the concluding league match on Friday.
The other matches scheduled for Wednesday will feature Group B teams.
Algeria take on Iran at the ROP Stadium at 5pm followed by a game between North Korea and Germany (7pm).
Both North Korea and Algeria won their first round matches against Iran and Germany respectively on Monday.
The showpiece world event of military football is being organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) for the first time in the region.
