Katara invites artists for second murals project

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara has invited interested residents to register for the second edition of ‘Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists' project, before January 22.
'The project comes in line with Katara's efforts to enrich the local art scene while strengthening the relations between artists from different walks of life, general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti said.
The project also aims to develop the artists' expertise, as well as providing a platform to interact with the public.
'Through this project we emphasise that art is a common language between artists, who come from various parts of the world. We do not confine this project or restrict creativity to specific art methods; instead we set the artist free to paint according to individual inspiration and interpretation.
Katara has allocated a plain white space, measuring 100m, for innovative artists (citizens and expatriates), to decorate, until the end of February. Visitors to the event can observe as the artists will be creating the murals.
The organising committee has announced that 50 artists from the Fine Art associations in Katara will be selected for the second phase, with priority being given to those who did not take part in the first edition of Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists. Applicants should be at least 20 years old.
The committee has given recommendations for the theme, suggesting that the paintings would ideally present interpretations of the physical/geographical features of Katara, its culture, or its future plans. In addition, an initial sketch will be required prior to the final painting, which will be presented for approval by the organising committee. Each successful artist will receive a financial award worth QR8,000, including QR1,000 to purchase painting brushes and colours.
Artists will paint on two panels, each one measuring 250×350cm. They are required to use appropriate high-quality paint suitable for outdoor use, and able to withstand varied weather conditions.
Additionally, the committee announced that collective painting is permitted, though the artwork will be presented under the name of one artist. The organising committee is eligible to cancel the participation of any artist who does not adhere to the stated terms and conditions.
To ensure the artists' safety, ladders will be provided to help in painting. Assistants and volunteers from various institutions will be on hand at the venue, to assist the painters, if so required. It is recommended that artists follow safety measures appropriate to working in an outdoor venue.
The first edition of Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists witnessed a range of participants from citizens and expatriates, who represented 18 different nationalities.
