Kuwait- World Economic Forum (WEF) kick off Tues.

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- The 47th World Economic Forum (WEF) will kick off on Tuesday in Davos Resort, Switzerland with the participation of around 3,000 world political and economic decision makers, and international organizations' representatives.

Five heads of UN organizations have called, in a joint press statement, on participants in the forum to seek to stop the humanitarian tragedy in war-torn Syria.

They called for an urgent and unconditional transformation of humanitarian aid to Syrian families in various parts of the country, as well as exerting all possible efforts for reaching a comprehensive implementation of ceasefire in Syria.

They also indicated "the increasing risks and threats" Syrian children are suffering as a result of malnutrition, dehydration, and contagious diseases and infections, as well as the impact of violence on their lives.

The Forum is best known for its Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters. Through the years, numerous business, government and civil society leaders have made their way to the high Alps to consider the major global issues of the day and to brainstorm on solutions to address these challenges.

While many global institutions are notable for the breadth of nations or the powerful political leaders attending their gatherings, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting and indeed all the activities and initiatives of the Forum around the world are distinguished by the active participation of government, business and civil society figures.

Professor Klaus Schwab was born in Ravensburg, Germany in 1938. He is Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation.

He founded the Forum in 1971, the same year in which he published (Modern Enterprise Management in Mechanical Engineering). In that book, he argued that the management of a modern enterprise must serve not only shareholders but all stakeholders, to achieve long-term growth and prosperity.

Schwab has championed the "multistakeholder" concept since the Forum's inception, and it has become the world's foremost platform for public and private cooperation.

Under his leadership, the Forum has been a driver for reconciliation efforts in different parts of the world, acting as a catalyst of numerous collaborations and international initiatives. (end) ta.lb
