Qatar- Emir directs to pay QR43.8m to solve Gaza's power woes


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani directed to swiftly pay QR43.8m to solve the problem of electricity in the Gaza Strip. The Emir also directed that an international cooperation should be undertaken to study the problem of electricity in the Strip and make proposals to swiftly solve it.

This came as the Emir met at the Emiri Diwan yesterday with Deputy Chairman of Islamic Resistance Movement's (Hamas) Political Bureau in Palestine Dr Ismail Haniyah.

The Chairman of the National Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Mohammed Al Emadi, during a telephone conversation, informed Acting Minister of Energy Authority in Ramallah, Zafer Melhem that Qatar will pay QR14.6m per month for three months to solve the problem of electricity in the Strip.

El Emadi emphasised that the amounts would be transferred immediately to the Palestinian Authority to resolve the problem facing the residents of Gaza, adding that Qatar will work with the Palestinian government and international parties concerned to fully resolve it.
