Amsterdam's first GCC trade mission visits Doha


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A delegation representing cultural organisations, startups, and the official foreign investment agency for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is in Doha.
The delegation is led by Kajsa Ollongren (pictured), Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam. It is Amsterdam's first trade mission to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The purpose of the mission is to promote Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general as a top destination for business and for Dutch cultural institutions and startups to explore business opportunities and collaborations in
The delegation is in Doha to strengthen economic and cultural ties between both cities. The delegation will meet with many key-players in Doha, including Katara Hospitalty, Qatar Tourism Authority and the Sheikh Faisal bin Qasim Museum. An investment seminar and a networking event for start-ups are also part of the one day programme. The purpose of the visit is to foster new business partnerships.
The visit of the Amsterdam delegation will conclude with a VIP dinner at the Museum of Islamic Art, Dr. Bahia Tahzib-Lie, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Mansour Al Mahmoud, CEO of Qatar Museums.
Innovation is high on the agenda during the visit to Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. A number of Amsterdam-based startups are part of the delegation and will take part in an intensive program that introduces them to the startup ecosystem in Doha and Dubai.
This program is organized by StartupAmsterdam, in collaboration with Qatar Business Incubation Center, Dubai Astrolabs and Dubai Startup Hub. The startups will meet with industry experts and learn how to expand into the GCC market. Amsterdam's Chief Technology Officer is also part of the delegation and will meet with relevant partners to exchange knowledge and explore collaboration on smart urban innovation.
The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area is an ideal location for companies from the GCC that want to expand into the European market. Amsterdam is well connected to mainland Europe and the rest of the world.
The trade mission is organized in close collaboration with the Embassy of Netherlands in Qatar. Partners for the programme in Doha include Arcadis, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, Qatar Business Incubation Center, and Qatar Music Academy.
