Istanbul blasts kill 29, injure 166

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- At least 29 people were killed and 166 others injured in the two bombings that hit central Istanbul late Saturday night, according to Turkish Interior Minister.

In a press conference early Sunday, minister Suleyman Soylu said the first attack occurred directly after a football match between Besiktas and Bursaspor at the Vodafone Arena. The explosion was launched through a moving car that targeted riot police gathering near the stadium, he added.

The second explosion came 45 seconds later, when a suicide bomber blew self up at Macka Park just across the stadium, Soylu noted.

Turkish security forces have arrested ten people suspected of the attack so far, he said, adding that Turkey will take all measures to fight terrorism and bring those responsible to justice.

Turkey announced Sunday as a day of national mourning on the souls of policemen and civilians who were killed in the attacks.(end) ta.ag
