US condemns deadly terrorist attack in Istanbul


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The United States condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Istanbul, Turkey, which killed and wounded dozens, National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement released by the White House on Saturday night. The attack appears to have targeted police forces, Price said.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and loved ones, and to all the people of Turkey," he said. "We stand together with Turkey, our NATO ally, against all terrorists who threaten Turkey, the United States, and global peace and stability." Twenty-nine people, mostly police officers, were killed and 166 injured in the twin bombings, Turkish Interior Minister Sأ¼leyman Soylu said in a press conference on Sunday.

The explosions, one large blast followed by a smaller one, occurred Saturday night after a heavily attended football game at Besiktas Vodafone Arena. (end).
