Trump promises to reduce drug prices

(MENAFN) Donald Trump had promised during a magazine interview to bring down drug prices, which sent shares of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies lower.

In the interview, after he was named the person of the year by the Time Magazine, Trump said: "I don't like what has happened with drug prices."

Although he did not state how he would reduce the costs, previously, he had taken aim at other industries, suggesting an interventionist.

On the other hand, Allergan Inc Chief Executive Brent Saunders had warned drug companies against a false sense of security under Trump, and he said: "If our industry can self-regulate on pricing, we can all focus on investing in innovative medicines and cures and move the pricing discussion to the back burner."
