Qatar- RAF donates food baskets in Kyrgyzstan


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has provided 1,450 food baskets to the poor in Kyrgyzstan.

More than 4,500 needy people benefitted from the project. The food items were distributed in several areas including Bishkek, Balykchy, Batken, Kyzyl-Kiya and Uzgen among others.

The baskets consisted of basic food items including rice, sugar, flour, edible oil, pasta, biscuits. A basket would be enough for a family of five to six for two months.

The baskets were given to most deserving families. A survey was conducted by RAF in collaboration with its local partner in Kyrgyzstan, Al Sanabil Charity Foundation, to list poor families and assess their needs.

The beneficiaries were given coupons. Distribution centres were set up in collaboration with local authorities to distribute the food baskets in an organised way.

Kyrgyzstan's population of 10 million has some 80 percent Muslims. They suffer from poverty due to economic reasonxs.

Therefore, RAF came forward to rescue them. Several development projects and those related to social, health and education were implemented for poor people in Kyrgyzstan.
