(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha:As Qatar-China Year of Culture nears its end, the Chinese Embassy is set to organise an exhibition of calligraphy and paintings next month in Doha.
The year 2016 had been announced as Qatar-China Year of Culture and a number of colourful activities were organised to celebrate cultural ties between two countries. The Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture connected cultures and promoted mutual understanding.
Talking to The Peninsula, Grace, Third Secretary at the Embassy of China in Qatar, said that the current cultural year would continue until January next year. 'Next month, there will be an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and paintings, she said.
Marking the year, a number of exhibitions were held in Qatar including one on Chinese silks themed 'The Secret of the Silkworm and another on Chinese contemporary art. From Qatar's side, Qatar Museums' flagship travelling exhibition 'Pearls was held in September in Beijing at the China National Museum.
Another important exhibition of antiquities 'Treasures of China is still open at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and will continue until January 7 next year. Terracotta soldiers from the First Emperor's Terracotta Army are still wowing visitors at this exhibition along with 116 other pieces dating from the Neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty, spanning over 5,000 years of Chinese history.
Hoping that the cultural ties between two countries would further grow with the passage of time along strong bilateral relations in other fields, Grace said that Qatar-China Year of Culture had been a great success. 'The upcoming events like calligraphy exhibition will also be liked by a lot of residents of Qatar, she added.
Chinese calligraphy is widely practised in China and loved in the country's cultural domain. Chinese calligraphy and ink and wash painting are closely related as similar tools and techniques are used in accomplishing them. Calligraphy has also led to the development of many forms of art in China, including seal carving, ornate paperweights, and inkstones.
