Oman- MSM30 continues its upward movement


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The benchmark index of Muscat Securities Market (MSM) continued its upward movement which started last week following the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries' deal which boosted oil prices to 16-months high.

The MSM30 index rose 0.68 per cent on Tuesday to close at 5,654.74 points.

Trading activity improved from previous day as turnover rose 58.3 per cent to RO4.2mn and volumes jumped by 48 per cent to nearly 20mn shares.

The gain in the main index was supported by all the sectoral indices. While the Financial index rose 0.74 per cent, the Industrial and Services indice rose by 0.36 per cent and 0.63 per cent, respectively. The MSM Shariah index increased by 0.23 per cent to close at 852.69 points.

Market breadth remained positive as 16 companies closed up, while seven companies closed down. As many as 16 companies, however, closed flat for the day. Top gainers included Bank Sohar (+8 per cent), Oman Investment and Finance (+7.2 per cent) and Al Jazeera Steel Products (+4.3 per cent).

Top losers of the day were Oman National Engineering and Investment (-3.1 per cent), Al Madina Takaful (-1.4 per cent) and Al Batinah Power (-1.1 per cent).
