(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) floated a tender for Market Management System (MMS) advisory service relating to the development of Oman's electricity spot market.
OPWP is planning to launch an electricity spot market (Oman Electricity Market) in 2020.
In order to operate the Oman Electricity Market, OPWP said it will need a suite of IT systems MMS or Market Management System).
'OPWP now requires an advisor to assist in the procurement of the MMS and to support OPWP in managing the MMS vendor until the Oman Electricity Market has commenced operation.
Accordingly, we seek a proposal for MMS advisory services relating to the development of the Oman Electricity market', the company said in an announcement on its website.
The tender documents will be available for purchase electronically, or from the office of OPWP until December 15.
The last date for bid submission is on January 19, 2017.
OPWP is currently developing the detailed market rules for a wholesale electricity spot market. The market is scheduled to begin operational trials in 2019 and commercial operation in 2020, according to OPWP's latest seven-year (2016-2022) statement.
According to the company, the spot market for electricity will operate alongside the existing system of long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Power and Water Purchase Agreements (PWPAs).
While capacity development by PPAs and PWPAs will continue, OPWP expects the spot market to provide a parallel route for capacity procurement.
The spot market is expected to increase the potential for competition in Oman's power generation market, and to provide a mechanism to make available additional capacity that might otherwise not be readily accessible.
