US Army Corps of Engineers reject plans for North Dakota pipeline

(MENAFN) As a major victory for Native Americans and environmentalists who had been staged months for protest against North Dakota pipeline, the US Army Corps of Engineers rejected this plans.

As the pipeline was set to cross under Missouri River and man-made Lake Oahe, which are drinking water sources for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The US Army"s assistant secretary for civil works said: "The best way to complete that work responsibly and expeditiously is to explore alternate routes for the pipeline crossing."

However, some 2,000 US military veterans joined the protest this week as a symbolically important move before a deadline for demonstrators vacate the area.
