(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omani driver Hamid al Qasimi reached the podium in the UAE Rally Championship after winning the third place in the final round in Fujairah over the weekend.
Oman's Faisal al Rashidi clinched the overall fourth position. His compatriot Khalid Soomar had a forgettable outing, leaving the rally following technical problems with the braking system of his car. The rally originally comprised a total of seven stages; two of them were cancelled by the organisers over safety concerns.
Stage one was the 8km-long Fujairah Dam event, which Qasimi finished in 6m01.524s driving a Ford Fiesta S2000. Faisal al Rashidi ended the stage in 6m03.436s, while Soomar faced technical issues in his Mitsubishi Evo 7.
Stage two in Farfar was cancelled and the action shifted to the third stage in Mamdoh, which was an 8km event on a very rough road. Soomar had a puncture there, completing the stage late. The cars then headed to the dam again for the next round.

Qasimi and his co-driver Mohammed al Mazroui finished stage three in 5m47.753s, while Faisal al Rashidi and his navigator Waleed al Rashidi ended the stage in 5m47.517s. Soomar and his co-driver Issa al Wardi fared moderately well. Stage four was the end of the journey for Soomar, as he pulled out with technical trouble.
'My aim was to reach the top three, but it didn't happen as I had planned,' he said. 'I am happy for Hamid and Faisal to end the rally with good results.'
Qasimi said after the championship concluded, 'I am very happy to finish the championship with this result. It has been about a lot of hard work done.'
Faisal al Rashidi said, 'I had a really good time in the championship here in UAE.'
