DOHA, Nov 11, (KUNA): Kuwaiti rowers have ranked second in the individual and team competition of the First GCC Rowing Championship, in open water, which kicked off in Doha, Qatar, on Friday for two days.
Kuwait's rowers Abdulrahman Al-Safran, came second in the individual category in the championship organized by the Qatar Sailing and Water-Sports Federation. The UAE and the Qatar teams were second and third respectively.
In doubles, Kuwait's Mohammad Rabei and Abdulrahman Alfadhl won the second place, as the UAE and the Qatari teams ranked second and third respectively.
Talking to KUNA, the Secretary General of the Kuwait Sea Sport Club (KSSC), and head of the, Sail, Rowing and Kayak Committee, Khalid Al-Foudry voiced delight over the achievement in the GCC tournament.
The Kuwaiti rowers have made great efforts and were determined to win and raise Kuwait's name on the podium, he said.
Al-Foudry expressed gratitude to the Public Authority for Sports (PAS) for their support to the team.
The team is taking part Saturday in the quadruple competitions, he said, expecting distinct results Kuwaiti rowers.
Meanwhile, the Organizing Committee of the Sail and Rowing held its 14th meeting on the sidelines of the GCC Rowing Championship.
The committee agreed that Kuwait would host the 9th GCC Sailing Championship in February, coinciding with the celebrations of the Independence of Kuwait and National Day.
