(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- SriLankan Airlines as part of its enhanced focus on the Middle Eastern travel market will resume operations from October 30.
Muscat Daily had reported in September that SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka were considering a merger and that Mihin Lanka was to be taken over around October. Its aircraft was to be re-branded as SriLankan Airlines and the Sri Lankan government was considering the merger as part of a strategy to cut costs.
The airlines' modern fleet of airbus A320 and A321 aircraft will operate from Colombo to Muscat five days a week except Wednesdays and Fridays, offering passengers comfortable seats, state-of-the-art entertainment systems, excellent in-flight cuisine and flight attendants famed for their warmth and care. The scheduled flights will depart Muscat at 10.30pm and arrive in Colombo at 4.20am, depart Colombo at 6.45pm and arrive in Muscat at 9.20pm.
SriLankan Airlines recently launched a dedicated Arabic website, providing travellers in the region with convenient and user-friendly method to book tickets online.
Currently, SriLankan Airlines is increasing its strategic focus on the Asia-Middle East region, launching flights to several new destinations and increasing frequencies to other cities that it already serves. The number of flights to Muscat is to be increased in December to cater to seasonal demand market, and also again next March.
Deepal Pallegangoda, country manager of SriLankan Airlines in Muscat said, 'The traffic between Muscat and Colombo includes labour and leisure markets with travellers expected to take advantage of SriLankan Airline's onward connections to a wide range of south Indian cities such as Trichy, Trivandrum, Kochi, Chennai and Bengaluru, as well as Maldives, Seychelles, Dhaka, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Shanghai, Kunming, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
'In 2015, more than 14,000 Omani tourists visited Sri Lanka according to the statistics of Sri Lanka's tourism development authority.'
