Qatar Committed to Right to Education, Foreign Ministry Official Says


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Tashkent, October 18 (QNA) - HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi said Tuesday that the State of Qatar considered human development a core part of its domestic and foreign policy.

Al Muraikhi said that providing the right to education is the main foundation for development and the only way to stop poverty and build a society based on equality and peace.

HE the Minister of State was speaking at a conference held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Tashkent in Uzbekistan. His Excellency said that the Islamic world needs to work together to resolve the challenges facing it and focus on sustainable development.

On the Palestinian issue, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that Middle-East peace process is the top priority for the State of Qatar as well as establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital. He called on all to work together to stand firmly against Israel's illegal policies and force the country to commit to international resolutions. He also called for cooperation to end Israel's occupation of all Arab land.

On developments of the Syrian crisis, the Minister of State said the Syrian regime has crossed all red lines as hundreds of Syrian are killed with no mercy. He added that the violence is leading to the deterioration of humanitarian conditions and compounding the number of refugees. He stressed that it was paramount the international community stop the Syrian regime from committing further crimes against its people.

On Yemen, Al Muraikhi said that the State of Qatar along with the coalition backing the legitimacy are working on regaining stability in the country. He added that Qatar condemned the attempts by some groups to prevent a peaceful transition that the people of Yemen approved. He stressed that the only way to resolve the crisis is to reach a national agreement based on the GCC initiative and implement international resolution, particularly the UN Security Council's no. 2216.

On the latest news on Qatari citizens who were kidnapped in Iraq, the Minister of State said that their families continue to suffer since they were kidnapped in December of last year. He expressed his hope that the citizens will be soon free to go home and thanked OIC for its interest in this humanitarian issue. (END)
