Qatar- RAF opens primary school in Tunisia

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has opened a primary school with a capacity of hundreds of students in Al Kharob, a village under the governorate of Nabeul in Tunisia.
The project 'Latifa Al Manni Primary School” was financed by a Qatari woman, Latifa Mohamad Al Mannai, on behalf of her late mother and son Mohamad Al Mannai.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Qatari Ambassador to Tunisia, Abdullah bin Nassir Al Humaidi, officials from RAF and local authorities.
The school was built on an area of 2,000 sqm. A part of the land — 830sqm — was donated by a Tunisian woman. The project aimed to reduce the suffering of students and their guardians and parents who were forced to walk a long distance to reach the nearest school from their village.
The school has four classrooms, a library, a playground, separate rooms for teachers and principal, a restaurant, four vehicles, a kitchen and two changing rooms.
The school is one of many projects financed by Al Mannai family members, said Dr Mohamad Salah Ibrahim, Deputy General Manager of RAF.
They financed several educational projects implemented in Yemen and Kirghizia in the past. These projects will help create educational opportunities for thousands of students worldwide, said Ibrahim.
RAF gave top priority to educational projects especially those related to building schools and universities, he added.
RAF";s initiative 'Food and Light” is about to provide basic foodstuff to poor families so they could send their children to schools. The project worth QR60m was launched last year. This shows the keenness of RAF to try to send dropouts back to school.
I am very happy to see the children in my school named after me, said Latifa Ahmad Al Mannai. 'I spent a lot of time for education. I began my practical life as a teacher and served on different key positions at educational institutions, she added. Therefore, I thought to build a school to serve this sector”, said Al Mannai.
