Kuwaiti athletes win five golds, two silvers in Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- A contingent of Kuwait athletes has clinched five gold medals and two silvers in the Malaysia Open Athletics Championship, after bagging three golds and two silvers on Saturday.
Essa Zankawi and Yaqoub Al-Yoha both won gold in the discus throw and 110 meters hurdles events respectively, with the latter administering a new record of 13.83 seconds.
Moreover, Majid Al-Zaid snagged the gold medal in the decathlon contest, while Ali Al-Sabagha won silver in the pole vault.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's Ambassador to Malaysia Saad Al-Asousi feted the athletes for their accomplishments, as he told KUNA that the athletes were well prepared for the championship.
Speaking on the support given by the country's leadership, Al-Asousi said it was instrumental to the success of the athletes in international events of such magnitude.
Furthermore, Kuwait's Mishary Suror won gold in the shot put contest with a record of 19.54 meters, while his compatriot Khaled Al-Subaie bagged the gold in the triple jump.
The championship, which kicked off on Friday, features participation of athletes from 10 Asian nations. (end) aab.nam
