UAE- Leaders bookshelf: Every book I read shapes my outlook on life

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) What book(s) are you currently reading?

I tend to read several books at once, mixing up genres and types, so as not to get bogged down by any one. That is, unless I really get into a book series or am in the middle of a research project or the book needs my undivided attention. Currently, I am reading Netflixed by Gina Keating, The Family Vault by Charlotte MacLeod, Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon and The Human Soul Revealed by Monika Muranyi.

What are the books that changed your life and shaped your outlook?

Every book I read (even fiction to an extent) shapes my outlook on life in some way or form. Wayne Dyer's Power of Intention and Excuses Begone! are just a few examples that spring to mind. There's also Carl Jung's The Undiscovered Self - it's a small book, but is filled with thought-provoking ideas with regards to understanding your own unconscious mind. In a world where information is just a few clicks away, it's important to know the difference between hype, deception, false news and true content. UnSpun by Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Jamieson does that by showing the reader how to be able to tell fact from fiction while staying informed. Vianna Stibal's books and courses about ThetaHealing have helped connect the dots between all the material I've read and the experiences I've had. I've also been getting familiar with the works of Thich Nhat Hanh. The Art of Communicating and Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise are particularly of interest.

What books would you pass onto your kids to read and treasure?

I have leather-bound editions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien, although they are not for reading (I have separate copies for that). Those books are definitely getting passed onto my kids, and I'll be sure to read Tolkien's The Hobbit, Roverandom, Adventures of Tom Bombadil as bedtime stories to the kids one day.

Books that you never tire of reading and re-reading?

Fiction: the entire Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher is a nice journey for fans of mystery mixed in with a supernatural twist, plenty of humour and great characters.

Non fiction: Whenever I'm ill, I tend to listen to Wayne Dyer's audio books and lectures for a pick-me-up. I always tend to learn something new even if I've read/listened to the content before.

A book you believe every person must pick up at least once?

We all come with biases and stereotypes that influence our daily decisions. Thomas Gilovich's How We Know What Isn't So: The Fallibility of Human Reason in Everyday Life documents the thoughts, beliefs, judgements and motivations of human behaviour.
