Oman- SQU delegation in Thailand to explore academic, research ties

A delegation from the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), headed by H H Sayyida Dr Muna bint Fahad al Said, assistant vice chancellor for international cooperation, is currently visiting several universities in Thailand.

The visit which aims to explore academic and research ties in tourism, hospitality studies and medical education is based on an invitation from the Thai government, stated a press release. The delegation includes officials from the Thai Embassy in Muscat, H E Jesda Katavetin, Ambassador of Thailand to Oman, Dr Masooma al Balushi, assistant professor at the Tourism Department, College of Arts and Social Sciences, SQU, Mahmood al Kindi, head of international cooperation division, and Nattasuda Mettaprasert from the Thai Embassy.
The delegation's schedule includes a visit to the Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Rangsit University, Kasem Bundit University, and Songklanagarind Hospital. The visit is also aimed at exploring research collaboration in fields of mutual interest. PSU is one of the most prestigious public universities in Thailand, which offers 80 per cent of its academic programmes in English and it has five branches in different cities of Thailand.
During the delegation's visit to PSU, based on a prior agreement, the two sides signed a letter of cooperation, to promote student and academic exchange programmes, research cooperation, prepare joint programmes and exchange of academic visits to present lectures in disciplines of tourism, Arabic, Islamic Sciences, medicine, nursing and agricultural and marine sciences. PSU reflects its cooperation in providing opportunities to train students in several disciplines, agricultural and marine sciences, medicine, nursing and tourism.
The agreement includes the possibility of training doctors and medical staff on latest techniques used in surgery and life support systems. As per the letter of cooperation, SQU would receive students and researchers from PSU for exchange programme in different specialisations. The visit concludes on Friday.
