AMMAN — The government and its relevant agencies will not tolerate incitement of sedition and hate speech via traditional media or social networks, State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said, vowing that legal action will be taken against the perpetrators. Those misusing networking websites to incite or spread hate speech will be prosecuted, said Minister of Justice, Bassam Talhouni, said Tuesday. In an interview with Petra, the MOJ Talhouni said some acts of hate incitement could amount to the crime of inciting terrorism, and will be dealt with according to the Anti-Terrorism Law, Penal Code and the Cyber Crime Law. At the opening of a 2-day conference on media's role in the fight against terrorism and extremism in Amman, organised by the Arab Commission for Satellite Broadcasting and the Arab League, Jordan News Agency 'Petra” director general, Faisal Shboul, addressed the convention on behalf of Minister Momani, stating that the media had the increasing responsibility to promote security and stability across the region and the world. Momani, who is also the government's official spokesman, said the scourge of terrorism and a surge in the speech to promote sedition, hate and takfir (accusation of apostasy) necessitated finding the proper means to stop violence and extremism and prevent hate speech.
