SABMiller shareholders back AB InBev takeover

(MENAFN- AFP) British brewer SABMiller's shareholders on Wednesday approved a mega-takeover by rival Anheuser-Busch InBev, clearing the way for the creation of the world's biggest beer company.

The news came hours after investors in AB InBev, the Belgian-Brazilian maker of Budweiser and Stella Artois, also backed the $104-billion (93-billion-euro) takeover for the producer of Foster's and Peroni.

SABMiller said in a statement that its shareholders have overwhelmingly agreed to AB InBev's £45-per-share offer, which was increased from £44 in July following the collapse in the pound after Britain's shock EU exit vote.

The blockbuster deal -- one of the biggest mergers ever attempted -- is now set for completion on October 10.
