Oman- Khodro's Dena to be the first car to be manufactured in Duqm

Oman and Iran will be jointly producing a car named Dena and exporting it to Africa and Yemen within one year.

The two nations will also sign three memoranda of understanding (MoU) in trade, industry and insurance sectors in the next couple of days. A high level economic committee from Oman left for Iran on Sunday under the leadership of H E Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

The Oman-Iran Joint Economic Committee will hold its 16th session in the Iranian capital, Tehran on Monday. Over the next couple of days, the visiting trade delegation to Tehran will discuss economic cooperation, including details of Dena production line in Duqm with their Iranian counterparts.

The meeting will discuss a range of important topics, such as increasing trade exchange between the two countries, as well as overcoming obstacles hindering trade growth, industrial and investment opportunities in the two countries. The MoU in the insurance sector is very important at this stage as it will facilitate the insurance on goods, as well as facilitating the movement of vehicles between the two countries onboard the (NFC) ferries, as the insurance companies in both countries will cover the insurance of those vehicles, H E Dr Sunaidy stated.

He added that the meeting will also discuss the topic of standards and specifications, as it is one of the most important agendas for Oman. With many agreements between both sides on the cards to facilitate the movement of goods produced in the two countries, terms of standards and specifications and cooperation of laboratories in both the countries is of utmost importance.

Oman inks MoU with Khodro company

Oman signed an MoU earlier with Iran Khodro Company (IKCO), Iran's largest auto manufacturing company, to roll out the first Omani-manufactured cars by 2017. IKCO's Dena will be the first car to be assembled at the Duqm factory. It is a family car first unveiled in April 2011, but mass-production only began in 2015. According to IKCO, 'Dena as latest car enjoys world class standards regarding technology and design.' Dena is a four-cylinder, 1648cc car with a Max power (hp) of 150@5500 rpm and Max torque (Nm) of 215@2200-4800 rpm.
