Omani institutions lend support to index

The Oman stock market received the support of local institutional investors who helped boost volumes on the bourse.

The benchmark MSM30 index closed 0.05 per cent higher at 5,768.84 as ten stocks posted gains against just four decliners, while 12 scrips closed unchanged.

Buying support from Omani institutions helped offset selling by regional investors. Market volumes jumped 21.4 per cent to 15.9mn shares traded, even as turnover fell 19.4 per cent to RO2.03mn.

Among the subindices, the Financial gauge advanced 0.21 per cent to 7,427.77, while the Industrial index inched up 0.08 per cent to 7,427.80. The Services index closed flat.

Among the top gainers were National Detergent (+4.76 per cent), Al Madina Takaful (+4.29 per cent) and Oman Fisheries (+1.59 per cent), while the laggards were led by Port Services Corporation (-4.51 per cent), Dhofar Cattle Feed (-2.22 per cent) and Galfar Engineering & Contracting (-1.92 per cent).
