The story of Lamiaa Moatamid gained a happy ending today when Moatamid arrived in Mohammed V hospital in Casablanca, Morocco. Video footage posted on YouTube documents the fervent reunion of Moatamid, her daughter and small family. At the exit door of the airport, Moatamid reunited with her mother, father and daughter. Relief and exhilaration clung to her crying face as she passionately hugged her family members and prostrated on the floor of the airport. Moatamid was victim of unjust imprisonment in Saudi Arabia for over one year for reporting a rape incident she endured by her husband and his friends. Earlier last week, she recounted her story in a video that quickly went viral on social media, and pleaded for King Mohamed VI to save her. Khalid Moatamid, Lamiaa's father, announced yesterday that he had received a call heralding that the king interceded to bring his daughter back from Saudi Arabia. Soon after the impassioned meeting with her family, Moatamid made a press statement where she managed to recount some parts of her shocking story. She began by saying that she did not believe that she would finally go back home: 'It was suffering, total suffering. We were imprisoned like animals; we used to go to court with shackles in our feet. The smelly food was served with blood in it…I left hundreds of Moroccan women who are still enduring the same suffering in that prison.' Moatamid thanked King Mohamed VI for bringing her back to Morocco, and called on him to do the same with other Moroccan female prisoners in Saudi Arabia who have spent long periods of time in jail, unjustly.
