AFC U16 Championship: Oman held by South Korea

Oman paid the price of wasting a number of goal-scoring chances as it was held to a goalless draw in Group C match of the AFC U16 Championship at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India on Monday.

Despite the draw, Yaqoub al Sabahi's boys edged closer to a spot in the quarterfinals.

Oman will advance if it avoids defeat against second-placed Iraq in their concluding game on Thursday.

Oman leads the group on better goal-difference as it is tied with Iraq with four points each after two matches. Two-time champion Oman had begun its campaign in style, trouncing Malaysia 3-0 on Friday.

Iraq had also won its opening clash against South Korea 2-1 but on Monday Iraq was held by Malaysia 1-1.

Aliff Haiqal's late equaliser got Malaysia its first point. Iraq dominated the first half and took a deserved lead three minutes from half-time through Mohammed Ridha, before Muntadher Mohammed missed from the spot on 57 minutes. Haiqal's blistering strike with five minutes remaining got Malaysia the equaliser.
