Syrian Gov't deplores blatant Turkish intervention

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Aug 24 (KUNA) -- The Syrian Government on Wednesday condemned Turkey's military intervention in the country's north.

Turkish ground forces, equipped with tanks and armored vehicles, crossed the border early today, advancing toward the town of Jarablus, said an official source at the Foreign Ministry, charging that the land troops moved into the Syrian territories "under air cover by the US-led Coalition." The official source said "combating terrorism on Syrian territories from any party must be done with advance coordination with the Syrian Government and the Syrian Army." "Syria condemns such blatant breach of its sovereignty," the official source said, adding that "combating terrorism should not be by means of driving the so-called Islamic State (from Jarablus) and replacing it with other groups backed by Turkey." "What is happening in Jarablus is not combating terrorism, it's rather replacing terrorists with others." (end) tk.rk
