Wall Street edges higher as investors await Fed outcome

U.S. equities closed higher on Tuesday, with the mid-and small-caps securing fresh record highs intra-day.
By the close the Dow Jones had ticked up 0.1% to 18,547. The S & P 500 added 0.2% to 2187, while the NASDAQ gained 0.3% to 5260.
Meanwhile, the S & P Midcap 400 closed up 0.5% at 1,571 after notching up a record high of 1,575.
Similarly, the S & P Smallcap 600 closed up 0.7% at 756 having earlier hit a record high at 757.
Commodities
West Texas Intermediate settled up 1.5% at US$48.10 a barrel, while Brent was trading around 1% higher at US$49.60 a barrel.
New York gold futures for December delivery settled up 0.2% at US$1346 an ounce. <
